We are strategically leveraging partnerships, funding, land, and local capacity to support a robust pipeline of affordable housing projects. With limited local resources to dedicate to affordable housing projects and housing related infrastructure coordination among state, local, and federal partners and stakeholders is essential to effectively invest in proven strategies where they are most needed and to leverage funding from outside the community to the greatest extent possible. We are also streamlining residential permitting within our jurisdiction to expedite approval of residential projects, improving communication and access to residential permitting as well as saving time and labor by improving efficiency at the local level. |

Skagit County is making progress toward this goal through a series of coordinated, practical initiatives that focus on readiness, accountability, and community trust. The Sheriff’s Office and partner agencies are actively reviewing and adapting to legislative changes, increasing communication with decision-makers and the public to explain the local impacts of new laws, and advocating for sustainable funding so new mandates can be implemented without reducing service levels. This work helps ensure that policy decisions translate into real, on-the-ground improvements for the community. At the operational level, the Sheriff’s Office and other first response agencies continue to invest in ensuring professional responses through ongoing training, updated policies and procedures aligned with industry standards, and participation in accreditation and audit processes that provide measurable benchmarks for performance. These efforts strengthen consistency, decision-making, and transparency while ensuring personnel are prepared to respond effectively to evolving public safety challenges. The Sheriff’s Office is also examining how resources are deployed across the county. Staffing and deployment studies will help to better understand call volume, response patterns, geographic coverage, and workload demands. We are continuously evaluating technology enhancements and efficiency improvements to reduce response times, support investigations, and better match staffing levels to community needs. Alongside this work, increased community engagement efforts—through outreach, education, and collaboration—are helping build trust, encourage shared responsibility for safety, and guide future improvements. |
