Housing cost burden is a key reflection of housing affordability in a community, as well as how stably housed renters are.
Households paying more than 50% of their income on shelter are considered extremely housing cost-burdened and are more likely to be unstably housed or become homeless.

Extreme housing cost burden was at a recent high of 29.9% in 2022. Since then extreme housing cost burden has decreased to 15.1% in 2024.
