What This Graph Tells Us
This graph shows us the average monthly cost for rental housing in Skagit County.
Why This Measure Matters
Average rent reflects the real time cost of rental housing in the community and is an important indicator of housing affordability.
What’s the Story?
Average rent in Skagit County has increased significantly over the last decade, driven by lack of supply in the rental market outpaced by demand. In 2015 the all unit average rent was $883 in the spring and $818 in the fall. The most recent data in quarter three of 2025 found an average all unit rent of $1,502, an 83% increase.
We hope to see average rents trend flat or slightly downward as more rental housing becomes available in Skagit County and vacancy rates trend higher. Because of the many variables involved in determining average rents and assessing affordability a firm target is not being set.
