On Target 2.1.d Transfer Station Operations (Tons / Day)

What This Graph Tells Us

This graphs shows us the total transferred refuse per operational day. Any change in quantity or equipment downtime will impact these metrics. An operational day is defined as no more than five hours of down time due to a holiday or maintenance requirement.

Why This Measure Matters

Quantity (in tons) of refuse exported is the primary measure when considering facility capacity, and dividing the total tonnage by number of operational business days every month will highlight levels of inefficiency impacting capacity. A decrease in number of operational days will increase value of the metric and likely require operational changes to address the problem or get back to normal.

What’s the Story?

Any major system outage exceeding 50% of a normal business day will cause significant accumulation of waste material or transferring uncompacted material less efficiently that both increase cost of operating the facility. Short outages are acceptable and may even be planned, but anything over 50% of a day will diminish efficiencies. The County is tracking tons per operational day to help identify performance issues as soon as possible.
